Job Readiness Training ( JRT) T his five-day intensive pro gram teaches youth the neces sary skills to succeed in the w ork force. C om m unity b u siness pro fessional presents such topics as: T im e and the W orkplace, T ele phone E tiquette, U nderstanding B ehavioral Styles, D ealing w ith C onflict in the W orkplace, C us tom er Service, Interview ing Tech niques, R esources fo rjo b Search, W orkplace & Pol icies, Tim e M an agement, and much more. Through classroom training, field trips and on-site jobexploration, youth gam a greater insight into the realities o f the w orking w orld. W Y D ’s ongoing supporters and business c o n tin u e to h ire y o u th u p o n com pletion o f the JR T program . Rise & Shine Deli This program is designed to provide jo b training and w ork o p portunities for W Y D graduates. T here are tw o deli locations - 619 S W 11th A ve, D ow ntow n and 9605 SW N im bus, Beaverton. This pro gram is m ade possible w ith the generous support o f Starbucks C offee, A didas, and G rand C en tral B anking Co. The deli provides fresh m ade sandw iches, soups, and pastries. T he dow ntow n lo cation is now offering coiporate catering services. Youth Entrepreneurial Training & Business Incubator T he Y o u th E n trep ren e u rial T raining is a “hands on learning” process w here youth leant about business by starting and operat ing their ow n individual busi nesses. W ith the com pletion o f a b usiness plan , p articipants are eligible to apply to our m icro-loan for capital to initiate their busi ness. An attem pt is m ade to m atch n e ig h b o r h o o d m e n to r s w ith young business ow ners for at least the first six m onths o f business. All graduates o f the YES program are eligible to enroll in en tre p re neurial training. In addition, w e recently opened a n eighborhood based business incubator for b u si ness started by o u r participants. Ropes Course and First Wednesdays A fter youth have com pleted the YES program , they are eligible to participate in the Ropes Course. The Ropes C ourse is designed to take the youth to the next level in w orking as a team , in trusting o th ers and in developing their self esteem. Tw o W estern Y outh D e velopm ent trainers, who are Cam p C ollins C ertified, facilitate this training. The w eekend includes problem solving gam es, physical activities, and rigorous em otional and physical adventures. T he First W ednesday o f every month, the YES graduates can com e together at W estern Y outh D evel opm ent and participate in various activities for ongoing support. All program s are free ofcharge, due to ongoing support from co m m unity foundations, businesses and individuals. W e are eternally grateful for their contributions.
